DSMS Choir Fundraiser! 9/22-10/4

September 22nd, 2016

Dear Choir Parents,

Our choir Fundraiser begins today, September 22! Students will bring home information regarding this event.  Please consider participating as your contributions help provide our young musicians with additional opportunities to learn and grow in choir! This fundraiser allows us opportunities to hire accompanists, cover travel expenses for our field trips throughout the year, cover entry fees for contests, hire clinicians to work with students, order classroom supplies such as music and so much more! This fundraiser will also offset expenses (travel, festival entry fees, accompanist, music cost) associated with our end of the year trip.  Thank you for your assistance as we work towards our goal of providing enriching and meaningful experiences for our kids in the DSMS choir program!

Orders are due on Tuesday, October 4th. Delivery is scheduled for the week of November 7th (exact date will be available shortly after orders are processed). We do accept cash payments, however, checks are highly preferred. Checks/ money orders should be made out to DSMS choir and include the student’s name printed clearly on the memo line.

We will need parent volunteers to help collect, count, verify payments, and process all of the orders on October 4th.  We will require a team of reliable parent volunteers on October 4th  during the school day, specifically, periods 1,3,5,6 & 7. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please email me at rachel.marquez@dsisdtx.us with your name and the class period(s) you are available to assist.

We look forward to a fantastic year with many opportunities ahead.

Please contact me with any questions and enjoy some great stuff too!

Wednesday 10/12 CONCERT all students arrive at 6:30pm. Students meet in High School Choir Room for check-in and warm-up.

We are so excited to present our first concert of the season! The performance will not exceed an hour in length, therefore all students are asked to stay for the entire concert to ensure everyone has an enthusiastic audience. In addition to performing and as part of our TEKS and grade, students will also demonstrate proper audience etiquette as they sit together and enjoy the concert. Thank you for your support as we work together to create a positive atmosphere for our young performers!

Now would also be a good time to double check that all concert attire is ready for the big day. If you ordered any uniform items, I will let you know as soon as they arrive and are distributed to students.

Please review the Choir Handbook (available on my teacher webpage) for details regarding expectations and requirements for attendance, rehearsals, concerts, choir concert attire, grading, and procedures. Also, be sure to arrange prompt pick up for your child at the end of rehearsal as they will be released on time.  Please let me know as soon as possible of any questions or concerns you have so I may best assist you before October 12th.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our first concert on October 12th at 7:00pm at the Dripping Springs High School Auditorium.

Choir Unifroms

August 26th, 2016

Order Forms are due 9/9/16

Girls Uniform order formGirls Uniform Order 2016
Boys Uniform order form Boys Uniform Order dsms 2016

Girls in 7th and 8th grade, and all boys will need to purchase a uniform at the beginning of the year, or use their choir uniform from a previous year. Sixth grade girls will wear their own choice of “concert black” as outlined below. Having clean, formal, concert attire for formal performances is a requirement of the choir department. Please consult the director if there are any issues in obtaining your uniform. No students will be excluded, however assistance can not be provided if communication does not occur.

7th and 8th Grade Students Formal Dress:
MEN: black dress pants, black vest, and white long-sleeve dress shirt with gold tie. You will also need black socks and black dress shoes. Shirts tucked in and ties tied correctly.
LADIES: all seventh and eighth grade girls will need to purchase or obtain our designated choir dress. The dress should be T- length and hemmed ten inches from the floor. Non-varsity treble choir girls can wear black closed-toed dress shoes (flats or a low, modest heel). Varsity girls must have black character shoes. ( www.discountdance.com is very reasonable.) NOTE: http://www.discountdance.com/dancewear/style_T3100.html?&pid=7798&Shop=Style&&skey=character+SHOES&search=true&SortOrder=R&SID=993702062. Is a link to the character shoe we have ordered in the past. Unfortunately, this company is no longer a district vendor and I am unable to order from them. Therefore, girls in VARSITY CHOIR (3rd Period) will need to purchase character shoes on their own, either from the site provided above, or at any place you desire. The color should be black and the heel no taller than 2 inches.

6th Grade Students Formal Dress:
LADIES: Sixth grade girls’choir students will wear their own “concert black” and should meet the following criteria: solid black dress, or “dressy” skirt or pants and top. All tops/ dresses must have a sleeve that covers the shoulders (no tank tops or spaghetti straps). The length of the skirt or the dress should fall to the knees or longer (remember, the audience is beneath the performer). No colors other than black are permissible. Black closed-toed dress shoes, either flats or a modest heel. Nude or flesh tights are preferred.
MEN: Sixth grade boys match the 7/8th grade boys as they are in the same choir. Uniforms are ordered at the beginning of the year and include: Black dress pants, black vest, and white long-sleeve dress shirt with gold tie. You will also need black socks and black dress shoes. Shirts tucked in and ties tied correctly. You may only need to order some of these items if you already own part of the required uniform (white dress shirt and black pants, for example are commonly owned).
